During the 1830s the Democratic Party was formed around President Andrew Jackson and his primary issues that took up most of his term banking and tariffs. The Democrats favored American expansion to new farmlands and new territories. The Democrats also ended elites, industrialists, and the Bank of the United states, which would they felt would build up an industry that was at the price of yeoman farmer. The Whig Party were an organized group in opposition to Andrew Jackson, who they felt would destroy America and the industry. The Whig Party was led by Henry Clay and John Quincy Adams who were in search for a compromise and balance in government, territorial expansion, and domestic manufacturing.
